Fluid-Air
Products Inc. Featured in Products Finishing
"Bringing powder coating
in-house leads to a top quality finish and quick turnaround" stated Odis
Meredith, Jr., president of PK Design. Meredith turned to Fluid-Air
Products for education on the entire powder coating process, starting with
pretreatment step. Meredith
said "I had worked with Fluid-Air before and they had always been good to
me. I knew they could help us out with liquid, so I called them up
to see if they could help us out with powder." Fluid-Air was happy
to help with powder and quickly made the trip to Poseyville, Indiana
to figure out what equipment would best fulfill the company's needs.
PK Design knew the best
finish started with the best surface preparation so installing their own
pretreatment process was an important first step. Joe Miller,
business manager with Fluid-Air Products gathered a team of professionals
proficient in the powder process, brought Meredith to the Fluid-Air
laboratory to test the ITW Gema OptiStar manual gun control unit and found
it to be the right gun, giving them the quality coating they needed as
well as the control they wanted.

Taking the Robot Census
Just
how many industrial robots are there worldwide, you ask.
Fortunately a source that may not have come to mind immediately -
the United Nations Economic commission for Europe (UNECE) - says it
knows. About 800,000. And that number will climb to 1
million by the end of 2007, adds the Commission (www.unece.org)
In North America in particular,
the industrial robot population is pegged at 112,000. By 2007,
UNECE says there will be 145,000 units in place.
While that may seem like a large
number, it is low compared to Europe and Japan. For every
10,000 persons employed in U.S. manufacturing, there are 63 robots
compared to 148 in Germany and 93 in the European Union. The
numbers are even more lopsided in the motor vehicle industry.
The U.S. has 740 robots for every 10,000 production workers while
Japan and Italy each have 1,400 units and Germany 1,000.

DeVilbiss CleanAir™ Products Offer Contaminant-Free Material Application
The Devilbiss CleanAir™ product offers three types of filtering units designed to ensure contaminant-free material application. These offerings are especially useful in today's finishing industry, where high solids and waterbornes are extremely sensitive to contaminants. "Paint flaws, trace amounts of oil, dirt or water in the air line can be cause for rework, wasting time and money. The DeVilbiss CleanAir™ filtering equipment will help avoid costly pinholes, blushing, fisheyes or dulling."
The CleanAir™ product line features three types of filtering units:
Centrifugal Filter-Regulator Units. Filtering out water and oil aerosols and dirt particles up to 5 microns, the centrifugal units supply cleaner, drier air to each spray gun in a system, and are ideal for most spray applications, air tools and equipment. An automatic drain removes water droplets collected in the bowl.
Coalescer Filter-Regulator Units. Coalescer filter-regulators remove water, dirt and oil from the system down to .01 micron, making them ideal for most spray applications, especially where oil aerosols may be a problem
Three-Stage Desiccant Units. The ultimate in clean dry air, the three-stage unit offers particulate removal to 5 microns, .01 micron, and water vapor filtering to a dew point of -40 F. This unit is designed for low to medium production
DeVilbiss also offers a companion accessory, the Whirlwind™ In-Line Filter. This filter attaches to the base of the spray gun or air tool to remove any remaining water, oil, dirt and rust from the air line. This high-flow, solvent-resistant air filter has a very low pressure drop and a floating filter that automatically adjusts for changing air conditions.
Finding innovative solutions to spray finishing problems has been the philosophy of DeVilbiss for over 100 years. For further information about the CleanAir™ Air Control Equipment or other DeVilbiss spray finishing products, please call Customer Service at 1.800.365.7565 .

Car bodies must be cleaned before they are painted. But baths of phosphate cleaning solution can pick up tiny metal bits called "weld balls" from one car and leave them on the next one in line. The weld balls cause paint defects and costly re-coating repairs. Filter Specialists has developed a spiral magnetic
separator that yanks the weld balls from the cleaning solution, holding them until an automatic purging cycle removes them from the equipment safely. Paint shop staff don't need to monitor the equipment constantly, and better filtration leads to fewer paint repairs | | |
